Acceptable Use Policy

Grades K-4 Students

Each year we inform and remind students, parents and guardians around the appropriate use of technology in our schools.  These guidelines along with the official Board policy (1.15 District-Wide Application of Technology) will govern the use of technology in all our schools.  These guidelines help direct our students towards safe and effective uses of the Internet.

Access to the Internet and School District No. 20’s networks is given as a privilege to users who agree to act in a lawful and responsible manner. You are agreeing to follow the rules in the District-Wide Application of Technology Policy while using the information resources, services and network of the District.  If you violate any of these provisions, you might lose access to technology or have other consequences applied.

As a student, I agree:

·        I will use all hardware and software with care and respect

·        I will follow the directions of the adult in charge

·        I will only use software approved by a teacher

·        I will not give out my name, address, or any other personal information over the Internet

·        I will only go to places on the Internet that are approved by a teacher or the adult in charge

·        I will tell a teacher or adult immediately if I come across something that is wrong

·        I agree to help others follow these rules

·        In the event I do not follow these rules, I will lose the privilege of using the technology for amounts of time determined by the school

 As the parent or legal guardian of the student:

·        I have read and discussed the guidelines with my son/daughter

·        I grant permission for my son/daughter to use the Internet while supervised and the District network of School District No. 20

·        I agree to release the School District No. 20 and staff from any liability or damages that may result from the actions of my son/daughter

·        I agree to accept all financial and legal liabilities, which may result from the actions of my son/daughter in regards to the use of the Internet and District network of School District No. 20

·        I understand that my son’s/daughter’s violation of these guidelines will result in the loss of the privilege of using the Internet and District network of School District No. 20

 The intent of the Acceptable Use Policy is to make clear certain uses, which are and are not appropriate, and not to exhaustively enumerate all such possible uses. Using the guidelines given above, School District No. 20 may at any time make determination that particular uses are or are not appropriate. The District will not monitor or judge the content of information transmitted over the Internet, but will investigate complaints or possible inappropriate use. In the course of investigating complaints, District staff will safeguard the privacy of all parties.

If you wish to limit or remove your child’s access to the Internet or school based computers please contact the Principal in writing.  Students will be asked to sign a form yearly informing/reminding them of their responsibilities.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school principal.

Grades K to 4 - Student form which is to be signed by the student and kept at the school by their homeroom teacher.

Grades 5 - 12 Students

·        To follow accepted rules of behavior as would be expected in all School District activities or facilities

·        To protect the privacy of my username and password from others

·        To not make copies of, or modify files, data or passwords belonging to other users, or to use their name and password

·        Not to reveal personal information, such as name, address or telephone number, without written permission from my parent or guardian

·        To follow the rules of copyright laws

·        To not use the Internet and network of the District for political lobbying, product advertising, personal profit, or private business

·        Not to harm or destroy any hardware, software or data

·        Not to participate in any actions, which may be considered inappropriate or dangerous to the integrity of Internet and District network

·        Not to use obscene, sexually explicit, slanderous, malicious or threatening language or materials

·        Not to change any computer settings without permission from my teacher

·        To immediately notify my teacher should I access something questionable

 As the parent or legal guardian of the student:

·        I have read and discussed the guidelines with my son/daughter

·        I grant permission for my son/daughter to use the Internet while supervised and the District network of School District No. 20

·        I agree to release the School District No. 20 and staff from any liability or damages that may result from the actions of my son/daughter

·        I agree to accept all financial and legal liabilities, which may result from the actions of my son/daughter in regards to the use of the Internet and District network of School District No. 20

Parent/Volunteers accessing technology in the school.

 I have read the District-Wide Application of Technology Policies and Procedures.  I agree to follow the rules contained in the Policy and Procedures.  I understand that if I violate the rules my access could be terminated.

·        To protect the privacy of my username and password from others

·        Not to reveal personal information, such as name, address or telephone number unless absolutely necessary

·        To follow the rules of copyright laws
